So far I am very pleased with my season 🙂
Well, it would be nice to place better than 5th some time, but there are a lot of great and strong athlethes out there and therefor I am very happy with my 5th place in St. Pölten (South Africa and Mallorca).
Training went well and I felt fit despite I was really tired from work. And it’s even more tiring that I don’t know when this will change. But I know it has to change, I really need more time for recovery and I don’t want to cut my training schedule… But don’t want to hang onto this, now more about the race in St. Pölten:
Just before the swim started they told us that we were starting separately from the men – good news! It was a start off the pontoon and I was happy with my start. I got onto some feet and even the feet I aimed for and it felt easy. So I just had to hang on… but it came different. At around 300m I got catched from both sides, with every breath I kept sipping water and so I came out of breath soon. I had to stop and let the groop swim. So, as you can guess, I am not very happy with my swim, came out 11th.
So, happy to be on my bike finally, at this time I did not know which place I was, I just knew I was back. So I started pushing, what is always kind of easy in the beginning. So it came to my mind that it would not be very wise to push it all out in the beginning of the course, some hills are coming up along the course, so I did it more controlled. Legs did not feel too fresh, but I just tried to focus on the course and enjoyed my ride. I kept passing some girls, yet I did not know which place I was.
Coming into T2 I was in 5th, and this is were I finished. This was not clear all the way on the run. First I lost time in transition, was told running the wrong way and had to run all the way back. Soon Michi Herlbauer closed the gap, but what I knew is that I won’t let her pass and happily it workes out. I had some gut iritation in the beginning of the run, but was able to ignore it further on and then it dissapeared. The course remindes me a bit of Roth, running along a river and making a turn in the historic city center. At 5k I heard the speaker calling Yvonnne van Vlerken and I was kind of afraid getting caught by her which pushed me even more. So I worked really hard. But my breath was not to loud, so I kind of felt ok all the way. Legs felt havy after the bike, but the more I ran the better they felt. So I was able to push it on the last 2k and finished 5th with a big smile and my fastest halfmarathon so far.
Exept for the swim I am really satisfied with my race, seems I am getting stronger since April. So hope I can keep going like this.
I so much love triathlon and I just loved the race in St Pölten. The course is very nice and the atmosphere is perfect. I would like to thank the organizers and all the other people aroung volunteering and of course everyone who was out there cheering! You all made it a special day! And I really love the new Ironmile, I had goosebumps running out of T2, this was just overwhelming.
